Florida law requires every association board member to complete education in order to serve. Here is what is required, where to complete it, and how to send us your certificate for our records.
New board members (HOA and Condo): You must complete a state-approved 4-hour certification course within 90 days of being elected or appointed.
HOA (Chapter 720) directors: After the initial course, you must complete 4 hours of continuing education every year — or 8 hours if your association has 2,500 or more parcels. The initial certification is valid for 4 years of continuous service.
Condominium / COA (Chapter 718) directors: After the initial course, you must complete 1 hour of continuing education each year covering that year's changes to the law. Condo directors must also sign a written certification confirming they have read the association's governing documents. The certification is valid for 7 years of continuous service.
Note: The 90-day deadline applies to directors elected or appointed on or after July 1, 2024. Directors already serving before that date had a longer window to complete the initial certification.
